No Fluff Jobs, a website with job offers for IT, analysed the changes that took place in this industry in Poland and Ukraine in the first half of 2022. As it turns out, Poland had more offers for juniors an increase of over 8 percentage points.
The IT industry in Poland and Ukraine
In Poland, backend specialists are still the most desirable specialists, and interestingly, in Ukraine, frontend specialists and testers are more often sought.
Frontend workers are the most sought-after group among programmers in Ukraine, which is clearly visible in the salaries, which in the case of this specialisation are higher in our eastern neighbours.
Polish companies, on the other hand, will pay more to people who know the backend, whose representatives are definitely more desirable in our country than in Ukraine, where in this area you can earn from 10.6 thousand up to 18.5 thousand PLN gross (UoP) and from 13.9 thousand up to 20.5 thousand PLN net + VAT (B2B).
In Poland, the number of job advertisements for juniors has increased. In the first half of 2021, 6.7 percent of IT advertisements were addressed to people with less experience, while in the same period in 2022 there were already 15.03% of them. Job offers with the fully remote option are also appearing more and more often. In 2021, 52.6 percent ads took into account such a model, and this year already 71.8 percent.
“Our research shows that as many as 96% of IT specialists want to work remotely or at least hybrid, so companies must be prepared for the fact that candidates will require this option from them already included in the job offer” – comments Tomasz Bujok, CEO of No Fluff Jobs.
The most sought-after specialisations in Ukraine are, in turn, frontend, testing, backend, UX and project manager. On the other hand, the most popular requirements for knowledge of technology are: React, JavaScript, Python, Java and PHP.
In the first months after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, on the No Fluff Jobs platform, it was possible to post a job offer with the annotation Help4UA, which meant that the employer offered additional support to candidates from Ukraine. The largest increase in the number of applications sent for this type of offer was recorded between February and March: 301.3 percent and between March and April: 115 percent
The largest increases in median earnings at B2B were recorded in the backend specialisation (H1 2021: from PLN 14,000 to 19,500 net + VAT – H1 2022: from PLN 16,000 to 23,000 net + VAT) . On the other hand, when it comes to employment contracts, the highest salaries were recorded in the BigData area (H1 2021: from PLN 12,000 to 17,000 gross – H1 2022: from PLN 14,500 to PLN 20,000 gross).
“Shortages of IT specialists are visible in every branch of the technology sector, and not only local or Scandinavian companies, but also American ones compete for the best talents from Poland or Ukraine. The trend of growing IT spreads will continue to gain momentum, because most companies are still on the path of digital transformation, ”comments Tomasz Bujok, CEO of No Fluff Jobs.
The median of the lower and upper salary brackets in the Ukrainian region for the frontend specialisation ranges in the case of UoP from 13.9 thousand. up to 20.8 thous. PLN gross (in Poland from 11.5 thousand to 17 thousand. PLN gross), and for B2B from 16 thousand. up to 22.4 thous. PLN net + VAT (in Poland from PLN 15 thousand to PLN 21.8 thousand net + VAT).
In the fullstack area in Ukraine, you can earn from 10.6 thousand up to 18.5 thousand PLN gross (employment contract) and from 16.1 thousand. up to PLN 22.4 net + VAT (contract). Programmers in Poland will earn a little less in this specialisation: UoP – from 11 thousand. up to 17 thousand gross PLN, B2B – from 15 thousand up to 21.5 thousand PLN net + VAT.
No Fluff Jobs is an IT classifieds portal available in 5 countries and 7 languages, which is the first and only one to require the publication of a pay gap in every job offer.
