The fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine for all adult Poles in September? This information was provided on Wednesday by Health Minister Adam Niedzielski. 

The head of the health ministry announced it on social media.

“There are indications that the 4th dose for the wider population, at least 18+, will be available in early September”,  he wrote on Twitter.

Currently, the fourth dose can be taken by all people over 60 years of age and people over 12 years of age with reduced immunity.

750,000 people registered for 4 Covid-19 vaccine

Among them, so far 750,000 people have registered for the vaccination with the next dose. About 40 percent. of these people have already taken the fourth dose of the preparation.

In mid-July, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) recommended the administration of the fourth dose of the vaccine (the second booster) to people over 60 years of age.

New wave of coronavirus infections in Europe

The recommendation was due to a new wave of coronavirus infections in Europe.

– We are seeing growing rates of COVID-19 case reporting and an increase in the need for hospitalisation in several countries, mainly due to the Omikron variant – said Dr. Andrea Ammon, director of ECDC.

In Poland, vaccination with the fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in this age group started on July 22.
