The Polish government wants to confiscate Russian property because of their invasion of Ukraine just like United Kingdom and USA fx. but not the exact same way
“At the meeting (with the opposition), we would like to raise the issue of how Poland could freeze and confiscate Russian property in our country,” Morawiecki said in an interview with “Wprost”.
Constitutional restrictions related to property rights
“On the one hand, we have constitutional restrictions on such activities related to property rights , and on the other – more and more Poles do not understand why, if Italians confiscate the yachts of Russian oligarchs, we cannot carry out such activities in our country” – added the Prime Minister.
“We want to carry it out through the Sejm and we decided that the opposition should be included in this process,” Morawiecki noted.
Hardly any yachts but other Russian property
The prime minister of Poland admitted that there are hardly any yachts from Russian oligarchs in Poland. However, he said there was some real estate owned by the Russians. There are also “financial assets, or company shares” that, in his opinion, Poland can acquire.
When it will be implemented in the Polish law is by now unknown, but I would not be surprised at all if it is going to be within 2-3 weeks and maybe it will be introduced with other new sanctions against Putin`s Russia.
