Google will become the owner of The Warsaw HUB skyscraper complex located in Warsaw’s Wola district, in which it leased space and located a cloud technology development centre last year.
The value of investments in the purchase of buildings and further development of the centre will amount to nearly 2.7 billion PLN.
Google: space for 2500 employees in Warsaw
Along with the acquisition and further development of The Warsaw HUB complex, Google will have office space for 2500 employees in its Warsaw offices, with the potential for its further development depending on the needs.
In October 2021, it was reported that Google had leased a dozen or so floors in the 130-metre skyscraper of the Warsaw Hub complex in Warsaw.
The Warsaw Hub complex consists of three high-rise buildings – two 130-metre office buildings and an 86-metre hotel tower connected with each other by a common podium –
The complex itself, although it was put into operation just over a year ago in the midst of a pandemic, is already 100 percent leased, says the press office of Ghelamco, the developer of the complex, in October 2021.
In addition to Google, there are companies such as Standard Chartered, Getin Noble Bank, Atradius and Cushman & Wakefield.
Google bought two office skyscrapers with basements and a retail section, but no hotel section. The current tenants of all parts that pass into Google’s hands will remain tenants.
Largest cloud technologies centre in Europe
Currently, Google employs over 1,000 people in Poland, including over 600 engineers and software engineers. The Warsaw engineering centre is the largest centre for the development of Google cloud technologies in Europe.
“Google has been operating in Poland for over 15 years and we are proud that we can deepen our involvement in the country by investing in the purchase of The Warsaw HUB office complex” says Ruth Porat, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Google and Alphabet, quoted in the Google press release.
“Our activity in Poland goes beyond supporting the development of the digital economy, and currently we focus on helping those who need it the most.
We will use our resources and spaces to support people affected by the war in Ukraine – one of such activities will be the creation of a support centre at our Google for Startups Campus in Warsaw’s Praga district, where non-governmental organisations can provide legal and psychological assistance to refugees” she added.
In 2021, the company launched the Google Cloud region in Warsaw, serving customers from Poland and Central and Eastern Europe, and at the same time becoming the first global provider of cloud services to open such an investment in the region.
On the other hand, the Google for Startups Campus has been operating in Warsaw’s Praga district for over 6 years, supporting young companies from the region in their expansion into global markets.
